COAST GUARD RESCUES MISSING FISHERMAN; STILL SEARCHING FOR 2ND MAN
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Coast Guard has located and rescued one of the fishermen who had been missing since Friday evening.
Rodney Post, 36, was spotted floating in the water 25 miles southwest of Clearwater Pass by the crew of a C-130 airplane at 8:52 a.m., Sunday. A HH-60 "Jayhawk" helicopter arrived on-scene 10 minutes later, hoisted Post and transported him to Tampa General Hospital. Post, who was wearing a lifejacket, reported that he had last seen his fellow fisherman, Jay French, earlier this morning and that French was wearing an orange lifejacket as well.
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater C-130 airplane, two HH-60 helicopters and the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island continue the search for French. Several commercial fishermen in the search area are also assisting with the search effort, which began Friday night when Post's brother notified the Coast Guard that the two fishermen had not returned from their fishing trip.
