The Coast Guard’s Only VC-4 and Air Station Miami part ways

Story by Lt j.g. Rob Tucker, Air Station Miami

MIAMI - The crew of Air Station Miami said farewell to the only VC-4 aircraft in the Coast Guard, a transport plane that conducted logistical operations at the air station for the last 10 years, as it flew to it’s new home at Air Station Washington, D.C.

The VC-4 will join the G-5, the Commandant’s plane, at its new home as it prepares for its new mission of providing transportation for Department of Homeland Security representatives. The VC-4 will continue to provide logistical support throughout the Atlantic Area.

Air Station Miami is truly proud to have been the home of the VC-4 for the past 10 years, providing over 5,500 productive flight hours. The VC-4 has supported logistical operations as well as other missions including Operations Neptune Shield, Liberty Shield, and multiple other local and regional law enforcement tasks while part of the busiest air/sea rescue unit in the world.

The VC-4 has been host to many high level representatives in the DHS as well as foreign heads of state. These duties have brought positive reflections upon Air Station Miami, and most importantly, the entire Coast Guard.

Having this asset call the Air Station home has brought considerable pride to the unit, and the air station crews wish the VC-4 luck in its new role in Washington.
