Coast Guard responding to downed aircraft in the Keys

MIAMI - The Coast Guard is currently responding to a report of a downed aircraft with three people aboard approximately three miles southwest of Cape Sable, Fla., Friday night.

Watchstanders at the Seventh Coast Guard District received a call at approximately 9:30 p.m. from an air-traffic controller in Miami reporting that a single-engine aircraft was descending rapidly and may have crashed in the water.

An MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami and a smallboat crew from Coast Guard Station Marathon, Fla., were immediately launched and are currently searching the water off Cape Sable for the aircraft passengers, whose identities are currently unknown.
