| Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer free vessel safety inspections |

MIAMI – Members of local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 6-11 will be providing free boating safety tips and vessel safety checks to boaters at Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne near Miami from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. To celebrate their 68th anniversary of public service in the greater Miami area, Flotilla 6-11 has partnered with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Marine Patrol who will showcase their rescue boats and provide tours to the boating public at the marina. “A free vessel safety check by a certified U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel examiner is a great way to ensure you have all the required safety equipment before heading out on the water,” said Christopher Todd, Flotilla 6-11 commander. “Our goal is to educate the public about boating safety laws and ways to properly handle emergency situations.” Founded on Aug. 1, 1941, members of Flotilla 6-11 have been volunteering their time to assist the boating public since before World War II. Auxiliary members participate in a wide variety of mission areas focused on recreational boating safety, homeland security and environmental protection. This event's activities are a small sampling of the many missions Coast Guard Auxiliary members perform each week in support of the Coast Guard.
