CHARLESTON, SC – The Coast Guard Maritime Law Enforcement Academy will hold a change of command ceremony at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, Friday at 10 a.m.
Cmdr. Mark Wilbert will be relieved by Cmdr. Paul Baker.
Wilbert is the second commanding officer of the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy and during his tenure more than 6,000 students have learned the essential tools necessary to support the Coast Guard’s homeland security and law enforcement missions. His new assignment will be as chief, office of shore forces, at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Baker reports to the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy from the 210-foot Coast Guard Cutter Confidence, homeported in Port Canaveral, Fla., where he served as the executive officer.
The Maritime Law Enforcement Academy was created by relocating and merging the Coast Guard’s Maritime Law Enforcement School formerly in Yorktown, Va., and its Boarding Team Member School formerly in Petaluma, Calif. The school offers nine courses for more than 2,200 students annually, including more than 35 international students and 128 state and local law enforcement officers. The Academy’s collocation at FLETC provides opportunities for coordinated professional development of Coast Guard personnel with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
