Coast Guard responding to downed helicopter

DUNDEDIN, Fla. - The Coast Guard is responding to a helicopter that landed in the Gulf of Mexico 100 yards west of Caladesi Island, in Dunedin at about 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call at about 6:30 p.m., Friday, reporting that a F44 Raven II helicopter had landed in the water and all three persons aboard made it safely to shore.

The Coast Guard immediately launched a 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, in Clearwater, Fla., to monitor the situation.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the incident.
