BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Coast Guard Station Brunswick hosted a change of command ceremony Friday morning.
Senior Chief Petty Officer Jeremy McConnell relieved Senior Chief Petty Officer Andrew Engle as officer in charge.
McConnell is a Saint Petersburg, Fla., native and most recently served as officer in charge of Coast Guard Station Hobucken, N.C. McConnell enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1993.
The men and women of Station Brunswick are responsible for performing many missions including search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, boating safety, marine environmental protection and enforcement of safety and security zones. Crewmembers respond to approximately 400 law enforcement boardings and approximately 100 search and rescue cases each year. Station Brunswick’s area of responsibility covers approximately 60 miles of coastline.
The change of command ceremony is a time-honored event preserved by the rich heritage of naval tradition. It is a custom that is formal and impressive and designed to strengthen the respect for the continuity of command that is vital to any military organization.
