Coast Guard presents award to local port authority director

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coast Guard presented a Meritorious Public Service Award Monday to the director of security at the Jacksonville Port Authority.

Capt. Paul F. Thomas, commander, Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, presented the award to Chuck White, of St. Marys, Ga. White has played a critical role in assessments, intelligence sharing and compliance with laws and regulations.

"I am honored to receive this recognition," said White. "It is always a pleasure to work with the Coast Guard and maritime community." 

White has been pivotal to identifying security issues in the port, developing courses of action, and building consensus among stakeholders, said Thomas.

The award is the Coast Guard's second highest public service award. It is given to recognize an indivual who has made a substantial contribution to the Coast Guard that produces tangible results, provides unique benefits to the public, and advances a Coast Guard mission.
