Coast Guard suspends search for 2 swimmers

SAVANNAH, Ga. The Coast Guard suspended its search for two possible struggling swimmers near Tybee Island, Ga., approximately 250 yards from the beach Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Coast Guard and other agencies searched approximately 10 square-miles for seven hours. The Coast Guard received a call from a good Samaritan reporting two swimmers struggling to swim back to shore Sunday at noon.

Two rescue helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, a 25-foot rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, two jet skis from Tybee Island Ocean rescue and a rescue boat from Chatham County all searched for the swimmers.
