SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Coast Guard is monitoring a grounded fishing vessel in St. Simons Sound near Brunswick, Ga., Saturday afternoon after rescuing the three fishermen aboard.

The Miss Savannah II, a 61-foot fishing vessel with three people aboard, contacted the Coast Guard Saturday morning requesting assistance after their vessel went aground and started taking on water. Coast Guard crews from Station Brunswick and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources immediately responded with de-watering pumps to rescue the fishermen.

The three fishermen were safely removed and containment boom was placed around the vessel to prevent the spread of hazardous material.

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the incident and will monitor the salvage of the vessel.
