Coast Guard rescues 2 Jacksonville men |
|
JACKSONVILLE, Fl. -- Coast Guard Station Mayport rescued two Jacksonville, Fla. men after their 18-foot boat capsized in the surf about 100 yards east of Huguenot Park at Fort George Inlet about 1:45 p.m. today. Huelen Hall, 56 of Jacksonville and Edwin Whetstone, 45 of Jacksonville; were pulled from the ocean at 2:02 p.m. today by Coast Guard rescue crews. Both men are reported to be in good condition. A Good Samaritan, who witnessed the 18-foot boat capsized reported the accident to the Coast Guard about 1:45 p.m. and stated there were four men in the boat when it capsized. Two of the me were able to swim to shore but Hall and Whetstone were not able to swim against the outgoing tide a Fort George Inlet and needed assistance. Both men were reported to be holding onto flotation devices as the Coast Guard rescue crew arrived. A wave hit the two men and knocked the flotation devices out of their hands. "Cases like this one illustrate how important it is to wear a life jacket at all times while on board a vessel," said Petty Officer Scott Carr, spokesman U. S.Coast Guard.
