Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Enforcement Begins Media Advisory: Media interested in visiting the Port of Jacksonville Monday are encouraged to contact the Public Affairs office for assistance at 305-318-1864. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coast Guard will begin enforcement of the Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) for each port located within South Carolina, Georgia, Northern Florida and Port Canaveral, Fla., Monday. In accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port Act), the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) will serve as an identification card for all personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas of MTSA regulated facilities. To obtain a TWIC, an individual must successfully pass a security threat assessment conducted by Transportation Security Administration (TSA). It can take four to six weeks from the time of enrollment to the time that an applicant receives their TWIC, so maritime workers including terminal employees, longshoremen, truck drivers, agents, and contractors should apply for TWIC as soon as possible.
