Coast Guard searching for overdue fishermen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coast Guard is searching for two overdue fishermen off the coast of Port Canaveral, Fla., Saturday evening.

Charles Shaver, 44, and Derrick Demers, both of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., departed Thursday at 9 a.m. on the 32-foot Harvester to go fishing approximately 20-miles east of Port Canaveral. They were reported overdue to the Coast Guard by a business partner Saturday evening when they didn't return as expected.

A helicopter from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., has searched for the two men, and the Coast Guard Cutter Shrike from Port Canaveral is preparing to begin searching.

Please call the Sector Jacksonville Command Center if you have any additional information on the two men's whereabouts at (904) 564-7511.

The Harvester is based out of Port Canaveral and has a maroon hull with a white cabin.
