Marine Safety Information Bulletin 5 - Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands Hurricane Omar |

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Sector San Juan Marine Safety and Security Duty Officers are notifying all facilities and vessels in the area of responsibility that the Captain of the Port has set and anticipates setting the following Port Conditions for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, due to the arrival of Hurricane Omar. PORT CONDITION ZULU has been set for the ports on the south coast of Puerto Rico (Ponce to Yabucoa) and Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands as of 8 a.m. Wednesday. The COTP anticipates setting PORT CONDITION ZULU for the following ports: For ports in Fajardo, Vieques, Culebra, and the majority of Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands as of 10 a.m. Wednesday. For ports in Redhook, Saint Thomas and St. John and Saint John, U.S. Virgin Islands as of 12 p.m. Wednesday. All port operations shall be suspended in these ports. The following ports will remain in PORT CONDITION WHISKEY: Arecibo, Mayaguez, Guanica, Tallaboa, and Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. These ports may resume normal operations, however, they must be prepared to cease operations at the direction of the COTP. The port of San Juan will remain at PORT CONDITION YANKEE. The port remains closed to inbound traffic, but vessel movements within the port are authorized. Owners and operators of recreational vessels should follow the small craft advisories from the National Weather Service, and take the necessary measures to safeguard the safety of their vessels. During Port Condition Zulu all vessel traffic, including recreational vessel traffic, must be suspended.
