Charleston fishing vessel captain and crew recognized for efforts in safe rescue

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Exceptional efforts of the captain and crew of the fishing vessel Still Crazy III, assisted efforts to rescue two Marine Corps pilots about 45 miles off the coast of Hilton Head, S.C., Wednesday.

The Coast Guard recognizes the accuracy of Capt. Tim (Red) Ham, Aaron Lindsay and John Brown who pinpointed the height, burn time and relative position of a flare last Wednesday morning. Their immediate efforts to relay this information to the United States Coast Guard allowed us to safely and efficiently direct search and rescue units to the t location of the survivors, enabling us to quickly and safely rescue the pilots.

The crew’s professionalism is a superb example of how a timely and accurate report enhances search and rescue efforts.

To express the Coast Guard's gratitude, the captain and crew will be presented with a certificate of appreciation. The presentation will be made by officials from both Group Charleston and Marine Safety Charleston at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the H and C Fish House, 9041 Business 17, Murrell’s Inlet, S.C
