Coast Guard rescues injured man from jet ski crash

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coast Guard rescued a man after two jet skis collided near Dewees Inlet, S.C., Saturday at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Richard Parker, 30, was taken by a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Charleston to a waiting Isle of Palms EMS crew. Parker was taken to Medical University of South Carolina and was in stable condition when turned over to EMS.

A Coast Guard rescue boat was at the scene of the accident four minutes after receiving the call from a Good Samaritan in the area.

The Coast Guard always recommends taking a boating safety course. Approximately 70 percent of all fatal accidents occurred on a vessel with an operator that had no formal boating safety instruction.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Isle of Palms Police Department.
