Coast Guard Participates in Oil Spill Response Exercise
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Coast Guard Sector Charleston will host an oil spill response exercise on the Ashley River in the vicinity of County Farm Boat Launch June 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The participating agencies will practice booming and pollution response mitigation techniques in accordance with the South Carolina Coastal Area Contingency Plan. This type of exercise is critical so that the responding agencies can quickly and effectively respond if an actual spill occurs. Coast Guard Station Charleston, Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Charleston, Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-6, and HEPACO Environmental Response Company will all be participating in the exercise. **EDITORS NOTE** - Media are invited to attend the oil spill response exercise June 11. Media interested in attending the exercise should R.S.V.P. with Lt. Cmdr. Eric King at (843) 724-7616 no later than 9 a.m. June 11. Media will be departing from the County Farm Boat Launch on the Ashley River to view the exercise.
