Coast Guard Warns Boaters About Shoaling In Ponce Inlet NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Boaters should use caution when transiting Ponce de Leon Inlet, Fla., because significant shoaling has lowered the depth of the navigational channel. Navigational light buoys 7A and 7B in Ponce Inlet were relocated Wednesday in order to compensate for the shoaling, but mariners should still use extreme caution when transiting in this area during low tide. The average depth of the navigational channel is approximately six feet at the average low tide. The Army Corps of Engineers has been notified of the problem, and they have agreed to address it as soon as they possibly can. Smaller recreational vessel operators should use good judgment and maritime navigational rules when transiting this channel with larger vessels such as head boats or chartered fishing vessels. ### Guarding the coast and saving lives since 1790 -- the United States Coast Guard |
