Coast Guard Medevacs San Francisco Woman from Cruise Ship Serenade of the Seas

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - A HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medically evacuated a woman from cruise ship Serenade of the Seas at 6 a.m. Monday, approximately 20 nautical miles southwest of Mona Island, Puerto Rico.

Eloisa Jacinto, 87, resident of San Francisco, Calif., and cancer patient, was suffering from internal bleeding aboard the Serenade of the Seas and required immediate medical attention ashore.

Coast Guard controllers coordinated with the cruise ship's crew and launched a rescue helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to conduct the medical evacuation.  Once on scene with the Serenade of the Seas, the helicopter crew hoisted the patient and her sister onto the aircraft. The Dolphin helicopter crew transported Jacinto to Air Station Borinquen and transferred her to awaiting Emergency Medical Services personnel, who in turn, transported the patient to El Buen Samaritano Hospital in Aguadilla.
