Coast Guard Completes Response to Sunken Fishing Vessel **Photos Available** SAVANNAH, Ga. - Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Savannah completed its response to a sunken fishing vessel in Turner's Creek, Ga., after the vessel owner removed the vessel from the water Friday. MSU Savannah received notification at approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday that the vessel Daddy's Lady sank while tied to a dock. Coast Guard pollution investigators responded to the incident location and observed a diesel fuel sheen coming from the vessel. The Coast Guard contracted an oil spill removal organization to place containment boom around the vessel to keep fuel from spreading into the waterway as it leaked from the sunken vessel. Submerged fuel vents were also plugged by a diver so no further fuel could spill into the water. Shoreline assessments that were conducted throughout the response did not find any oiled wildlife or areas with recoverable amounts of fuel. The Coast Guard encourages reports of oil or hazardous material spills be made immediately to the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802.
