Coast Guard Recognizes Aircrews For Dominican Republic Humanitarian Relief Efforts During Tropical Storm Noel

 

AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen aircrews were recognized Tuesday for their actions during humanitarian relief efforts in the Dominican Republic in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Noel.

Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen aircrews who deployed in November 2007 to San Isidro Air Force Base, Dominican Republic, helped save 21 lives and provided relief to more than 71,500 villagers who fell victim to the heavy rainfalls that accompanied Tropical Storm Noel. 

"It was indeed a true pleasure and honor to present these awards to the heroic aircrews from Air Station Borinquen," said Rear Adm. David W. Kunkel, commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District. "I salute the actions of these brave young men and women who rescued and provided relief to so many people in the Dominican Republic after many parts of the country were devastated by the passing of Tropical Storm Noel.  Having been stationed here for two years earlier in my carrier, it was a special pleasure for me to visit the men and women from Air Station Borinquen."

"It was an honor for me personally to have Rear Adm. David W. Kunkel take the time to visit Air Station Borinquen and recognize the heroic efforts of our aircrews during humanitarian relief operations in the Dominican Republic that followed Tropical Storm Noel, said Capt. Thomas D. Wade, commanding officer of Air Station Borinquen.
