Coast Guard, SEFAC Holds Pollution Response Exercise of Port Everglades *Video available of boom deployment* Editors Note: Video in DVD format can be picked up at the Brickell Plaza Federal Building, 909 S.E. 1st Ave., Miami, Fla., 33131 MIAMI - The Coast Guard and the Southeast Florida Area Committee are scheduled to hold a full-scale pollution response exercise at Port Everglades, Fla., Monday and Tuesday. The National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program is a unified federal effort which is designated to test and evaluate the regional government and industry partners' readiness to respond to a large pollution incident. Broward Sheriff's Fire and Rescue unit and Coast Guard assets conducted boom deployment training as an initial part of testing operation capabilities Thursday and Friday. Members of the Southeast Florida Area Committee include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Coast Guard Sector Miami, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Broward Sheriff's Fire and Rescue, Broward County Emergency Management Agency, City of Fort Lauderdale emergency Management, City of Hollywood Emergency Management, Chevron Oil, Marathon Oil, South Florida Petroleum and Cliff Berry Inc. Planning for the exercise began in July 2007 and final preparations are now complete. An incident command post for the exercise will be located in Terminal 18 at Port Everglades.
