Coast Guard Interdicts, Repatriates 41 Cuban Migrants

MIAMI - The Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur repatriated 41 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Thursday, who were interdicted during two separate incidents since Jan. 11. 

The Coast Guard Cutter Drummond pursued and interdicted a go-fast vessel Sunday 48 miles southeast of Key West, Fla., with 13 men and 3 women aboard. Three suspected smugglers were transferred to Customs and Border Protection officials in Marathon, Fla.  

A CBP fixed-wing aircraft located a go-fast vessel while conducting a law enforcement patrol Friday. Crews aboard a 33-foot Special Purpose-Law Enforcement Craft from Coast Guard Station Islamorada, Fla., intercepted the vessel 40 miles southeast of Islamorada. The go-fast was carrying 10 men, eight women and seven children. Two suspected smugglers and their vessel were transferred to CBP officials in Islamorada.

Since Jan. 1, Coast Guard crews and their Department of Homeland Security partners have conducted 14 interdictions at sea involving 12 go-fast vessels and two rustic vessels.

The Cutter Chandeleur is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Miami.

The Cutter Drummond is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West.
