Cleanup on South Beach.  Every year numerous tons of trash, such as cigarette butts, straws
and soda bottles are picked up by volunteers during the Coastal Cleanup effort.

MIAMI - Coast Guard men and women stationed throughout South Florida volunteered their support for the 22nd Annual International Coastal Cleanup on South Beach between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday.

Nearly 150 to 200 Coast Guardsmen walked South Beach between 10th Street and Government Cut helping the Miami-Dade Coastal Cleanup project in an effort to remove trash and debris littering the world-renowned tourist destination.

Thousands of volunteers worldwide representing more than 80 countries will head to shores, riverbanks, beaches and reefs Sept. 15 to remove debris that can potentially harm wildlife and choke waterways with pollution.
