Coast Guard Suspends Search for Diver PONCE INLET, Fla. -- The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing diver 10 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet Sunday at approximately 5 p.m. Kenneth Gessinger, 54, of Port Orange, Fla., was diving with his family on a 21-foot boat when he surfaced and then quickly disappeared under the water. Gessinger's family quickly contacted the Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 to request assistance. A Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter from Air Station Savannah, Ga., a Cost Guard HH-60 helicopter from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., a Nay P-3 fixed-wing aircraft, an Air Force helicopter, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat, the Coast Guard Cutter Shrike, and several Good Samaritans all searched for Gessinger. A total of 429 square-miles combined were searched for Gessinger for a total of 45 hours combined. ###
