SAVANNAH, Ga. - Coast Guard Air Station Savannah medically evacuated a man from Pritchards Island, S.C., to Savannah Memorial Hospital Sunday morning.

Robin K. McGrath, 50, of Fripp Island, S.C., was operating a four-wheeler on the beach when he lost control of the vehicle. The four-wheeler then flipped and rolled over onto him. His wife and friends immediately contacted the Coast Guard and requested assistance.

A rescue crew from Air Station Savannah immediately launched and arrived on scene at 9:20 a.m. The flight crew tended to McGrath and put him in a c-collar, spine board and litter.

"Due to the nature of the injury and the possibility of neck or back injuries, we immobilized the patient using a c-collar and spine board prior to transport," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Stu McConnel, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer at Air Station Savannah.

McGrath was transported to Savannah Memorial in stable condition.
