 Passenger Vessel Grounding in Harbortown, S.C.       

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coast Guard is investigating the grounding of a 64-foot commercial tour sailing vessel at the entrance to the Harbortown Marina Tuesday at 8:10 p.m.

The sailing vessel Stars and Stripes, operated by Vagabond Tours in Hilton Head, S.C., grounded approximately 200 yards from the entrance to the marina.  The vessel had 22 passengers and 3 crew members on board, all of whom were safely removed from the grounded vessel and taken to the marina by good Samaritans. Neither the passengers nor the crew suffered any injuries.

The vessel re-floated at approximately 3:00 a.m. with the incoming tide and returned to the marina.  Alcohol tests were conducted on the captain and crew. There was no evidence of alcohol use.
