Coast Guard Establishes Safety Zone for Fireworks Display

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Coast Guard is establishing a 100-foot safety zone on the Savannah River next to the Westin Hotel Wednesday from 9:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the July 4th fireworks display.

The safety zone is designed to keep vessels from approaching to close to the fireworks launch point, which will be located on the southwest corner of Hutchinson Island, Ga., immediately down river from the hotel slip.  Coast Guard patrol vessels will be on-scene to safely direct vessels away from the safety zone.  The Coast Guard patrol vessels can be reached by radio on VHF-FM channels 16 or 21A.

The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to always operate in a safe and prudent manner.  More information on boating safety can be found at http://www.uscgboating.org/.
