Coast Guard Medevacs 16-Year-Old From Cruise Ship
*Video Available*

TAMPA, Fla. - A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla. rescue crew medically evacuated a 16-year-old male from a cruiseship 120-miles southwest of Key West, Fla., at about noon Thursday.

Patrick Galloway was inside the cruise ship elevator and attempted to stop the elevator door from closing with his right hand.  The elevator door closed and when Galloway pulled his hand from the door, his pinky finger was severed.

The Coast Guard received a call at 1 a.m. from the ship's doctor on board the Miami based 855-foot Carnival cruiseship Fascination, reporting Galloway's condition and requesting Coast Guard assistance.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater immediately launched an HH-60 rescue helicopter and a C-130 search plane to assist in the medevac. The rescue crews arrived on scene at 12 p.m. and safely hoisted Galloway into the rescue helicopter.

Galloway was transferred toTampa General Hospital, and was reported to be in stable condition.

Editor's note: Video of this rescue is available for pick up at the security gate of
Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater at 15100 Rescue Way in Clearwater, Fla.
