Coast Guard Rescues 3 Boaters off Christianstead Harbor

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A Coast Guard response boat rescue crew saved three boaters today approximately four nautical miles north of Christianstead Harbor, Saint Criox, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bruce Robinson, 51, was accompanied by his two sons Blake Robinson, 18, and Tyler Robinson, 17, when they were rescued by the crew of a Coast Guard 25-foot response boat from Regional Inspection Office RIO Saint Croix.  The rescue crew located the distressed boaters at 11 a.m. sitting on the sinking hull of their overturned 45-foot powerboat.

Coast Guard Controllers in Sector San Juan initially received a Mayday call from the distressed boaters on VHF-Channel 16, at approximately 9:51 a.m. today.  Controllers launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and recalled the 25-foot response boat crew from RIO Saint Croix to search for the distressed boaters.

All three boaters were found to be in good health and were transported back to Christianstead Harbor aboard the 25-foot response boat.
