MIAMI - The Coast Guard is scheduled to host a ceremony Friday at 11:30 a.m. on Coast Guard Base Miami Beach, Fla., 100 MacArthur Causeway, to announce the partnership between Major League Baseball's Florida Marlins and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Marlin.

The Marlin's president, David Samson, Marlin Ball Players, Billy the Marlin and members of the Marlins Mermaids dance team are slated to participate in the event.  Coast Guard Rear Admiral David W. Kunkel, the commander of the Coast Guard's Seventh District, will preside over the ceremony.

During the ceremony Lt. j.g. Donald Flusche, commanding officer of the Marlin, and Samson will unveil a special logo that will be carried aboard the Marlin's flag box.

The partnership between the Florida Marlins and the Coast Guard will help promote public awareness of the Coast Guard and the value of its missions.   The Florida Marlins organization is an active supporter of the men and women serving in the armed forces of the U.S., providing access to games for military personnel and their families.

Editors Note: Media interested in attending the event, should arrive no later than 11:00 a.m. at 100 McCarthur Causeway, Miami Beach, Fla., Friday, May 25, 2007.
