Coast Guard Rescues Local Kayakers off Key West

MIAMI - The Coast Guard rescued two people after their kayak capsized approximately 100 yards north of Key West, Fla., at 8:25 a.m.

The sailing vessel Perseverance 2 called rescue coordinators at Sector Key West to report that Sean Lavin and Taloria Smith, both from Key West,  had gone in the water and required immediate help.  Neither of them had been wearing their life jackets.

A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Key West located the pair, recovered the distressed kayakers and their kayak and took them back to their sail boat Leper Lee at Fleming Key Mooring Field. Both of the Kayakers were reported to be in good condition.
