BODY OF MISSING MAN RECOVERED OFF POINT UDALL, SAINT CROIX

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard rescue units suspended the search Monday for a man who was reported missing Sunday morning. The body was found yesterday by a Blue Lightning Maritime Police unit. The man was reported missing Sunday morning when apparently he fell from the rocks and into the water off the eastern tip of Point Udall, Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Shannon Swords, 28, a Hovensa Oil Refinery employee, went with a group of people to the most eastern tip of Saint Croix to see the sun rise.  According to reports received from a fellow co-worker who was at the scene, Swords had walked down a steep path and when he got to the bottom, he saw Swords floating face down and not moving approximately 30-feet off the rocks.  His co-worker called 911 requesting help.

The Coast Guard received initial notification, of a person in the water, from Saint Croix Blue Lightning Maritime Police at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday.  Coast Guard controllers immediately launched a Coast Guard Auxiliary helicopter from Saint Croix and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla to assist in the search.

Coast Guard rescue crews searched more than 550 square miles since Sunday until the body was found yesterday.
