Coast Guard repatriates 13 Cuban migrants

MIAMI — Crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket repatriated 13 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Friday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Key West, Fla., command center received notification Sunday that a Customs and Border Protection Dash-8 aircraft had spotted a vessel with Cuban migrants south of Key West, Fla.

A Coast Guard Station Marathon boatcrew located and arrived on scene with the 13 Cuban migrants.

The migrants were later transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island and then the Nantucket for repatriation.

Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.

The cutter Kodiak Island is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West, Fla.

The cutter Nantucket is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in St. Petersburg, Fla.
