WHO: The Coast Guard Cutter Resolute, a 210-foot Reliance class cutter with a crew complement of 12 officers and 62 enlisted personnel, is scheduled to return home after a successful eight patrol in the Caribbean.
WHAT: The Commanding Officer will be available for interviews. He is prepared to discuss operations during the patrol.
During the patrol:
- The Resolute interdicted a grossly overloaded sailing vessel with a total of 173 Haitian migrants aboard. All individuals were safely repatriated to Cap Haitien, Haiti.
- On another occasion, the Resolute crew responded to the distress call of a Dominican fishing vessel lost at sea. After finding the vessel adrift shortly after midnight, the crew coordinated with the Haitian Coast Guard to tow the vessel safely into port.
- In addition to completing more than 130 training drills and 200 helicopter evolutions, the Resolute crew visited Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands. The crew hosted a flight deck reception to celebrate the Coast Guard’s maritime relationship with the local government. In attendance were the Turks and Caicos Governor, His Excellency Daimian R. Todd, and the Charge d’Affaires, US Embassy Nassau, Bahamas, Mr. John Dinkelman.
